Cell / Matter
Cell (from the Latin cella, meaning «small room», «cage»)
Is the basic structural and functional unit of all known living organisms. Is the building block of life. It has an outer membrane that envelopes the cell and separates its interior from the environment. Inside the membrane are enclosed numerous organelles with different functions and several biomolecules.
In the laB. world, Cell is used as a metaphor of Matter (which has a double meaning of «material» and «essence»).
